Manchester Airport Terminal 2 East | Full Store Fit Out
Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2 East is at the heart of one of the most ambitious infrastructure programmes in the UK, and we were proud to deliver one of its flagship retail spaces.
As part of MAG’s £1.3 billion transformation programme — an ambitious ten-year vision to establish Manchester as a world-class global hub for the North — we completed the full fit-out of the new World Duty Free main store. Spanning 1,980m², including 1,715m² of retail space and 265m² of back-of-house accommodation, the project was delivered within a 26-week contract period.
A Complex Specification, Expertly Delivered
The store’s striking aesthetic was defined by curved and shaped floor tiles and ceiling rafts engineered to mirror one another precisely, creating a seamless flow throughout. A large curved feature wall was built to exact tolerances to accommodate a full-size curved media screen, while new entrance and exit portal frames, approximately 175 floor boxes, sliding shutters, comprehensive air conditioning, sprinklers, arc fault detection, fire alarm air sampling devices, and an extensive data cabling network completed the scope.
Navigating Exceptional Challenges
Working airside within a live airport environment demanded meticulous planning and coordination at every stage. Our team managed approximately 30 concurrent brand installation packages by third-party contractors — all within the strict access and compliance requirements of an airside space.
Technical challenges included the installation of a two-tonne digi-bar canopy; resolving a shallower-than-specified floor screed to achieve correct floor box installation; and surveying and fitting a curved media screen to an existing airport bulkhead for which no as-built information existed. Where building heights were extremely restricted and ceiling suspension was not possible from the existing structure, we designed and installed new steelwork to deliver the solution.

A world-class retail destination, built to serve millions of passengers each year and a fitting centrepiece for Manchester Airport’s vision for the future — delivered on time, to specification, and to the exacting standards this landmark project demanded.
